Photographic Tehcniques

Old and New

Black and white
I went out to find things I could take photographs of that represent old and new, I tried to get the look of the old with the trees and nature and the look of the black and white. I then looked for the new with the buildings and people, I really like the look of these image in black and white. My favorite one is on the third row two from the left, I like how I've framed it and the composure with the lighting. We also went to the amphitheater which has a really old 'Roman' look to it, to get the black and white effect I changed the settings on my camera. The first 5 images are a bit too dark so i changed my exposure and then i liked what they looked like.

Negative
To get this affect I used photoshop, I first inverted it and then I made it black and white.

Old Crumpled Photo
To achieve this I had to have a photograph and a photo of some crumpled paper. I made changed the hue saturation of the paper and the opacity of it making it transparent so you can see the original photo through it and it gave quite a nice old looking affect.

Precision Colouring
To achieve this I had to highlight half of the photograph being quite precise and then change the hue saturation of the highlighted are to get a different colour to the rest on the photograph. I quite like this although I needed to unhighlight her arm to make it look better.

Writing with and Image
To do this I had my original photograph and a layer that was plain white and was on top of the photograph. I then added text to the white layer and made it bold and then made it completely transparent to make the photograph behind it visible.

Vignette
For this look I had to use the marque tool in the shape of an oval, and dragged that from one corner to the other and then changed the brightness of the corners that weren't highlighted this made the corners darker to the rest of the photograph.

Cyanotype
To create this you have to go to adjustments select hue saturation and then select cyanotype and then you can change the opacity to how you like it.

Black and White Film Grain
To get this affect you  need to make sure your photograph is black and white, you need to make a new clean layer and then go to edit and select fill, that pulls up this box on the left. Making sure the contents is on 50% black and white then click ok. This won't have done much.

Then go to filter and then noise and choose add noise this that ill pull up the box on the left. Make sure you have the monochromatic boxed checked at the bottom. You can then change the amount of grain as much as you want then click okay, you can then also change the opacity of the grain to how you like it.

Hand Painting Black and White
Once you have your black and white photograph on photoshop you need to then add a blank layer and change the blend mode to 'colour' you can then chose whatever colour you want and click on the brush tool and start painting. If at any point you want a different colour you need a new layout, that way you are able to rub out any mistakes but not ruin the rest.
